Repetition as an artistic concept

Why photograph the same subject again and again - perhaps even from the very same perspective?

The more often I return to a subject, the stronger my connection to it becomes. With each visit, I begin to notice subtleties that previously escaped me. I start to see not only what is obvious, but also the quiet variations.

Depending on the time of day, the weather, or the season, the atmosphere shifts, light falls differently, shadows move, fog reduces forms, or clear air sharpens contours. The choice of film, equipment, and technique also shapes the character of the image. Grain, contrast, color palette, or sharpness subtly but distinctly influence the visual statement. And each time, I bring a different state of mind. My perception, my patience, my inner calm or restlessness - all of this flows into the photograph.

I therefore try not to approach my subjects like a tourist, collecting impressions before moving on. I want to return to them like a local - familiar, attentive, recurring. Even when traveling, I seek this approach. It is not about the pursuit of something new. It is about depth.
